Set Up Tips
Gary Finlay's Brush Cooling Tabs
This is a great way to ensure
your brushes run as cool as possible. It is a
little more complex than soldering pipes onto the brush hoods but
provides a much larger contact (cooling) patch and is much stronger
and neater than pipes on the brush hoods. Unlike pipes this
method ensures the brush springs are easily removed and put on.
The tabs are made of brass. they
measure 1/16" x 1/4" x 1/2". A 1/8" hole or
5/32" hole can be drilled in them and a 5/8" long tube
of the the appropriate diamter soldered in. (the 5/32" gives a
30% extra cooling area as the water moves thru the tab.
Tin
the brass tab and the side of the bush hood (remove the brush), which
ison the side furthest from the spring.
Put the iron to it to melt the solder
on each piece. Be careful to ensure no
solder spatters inside the hood or vibration damping spring.
Garry thanks for a great idea. Andrew
